BOTANICAL PORTRAIT  The Juniper Plant can be a shrub or a tree ranging from as small as 3 feet tall to as large as 35 feet tall. Juniper Trees only grow in altitudes ranging from 8,800-15,400 feet. Junipers are plucked off their berries once a year and afterwards are dried before distillation. SOURCE The berries of the Juniper Tree are both grown and cultivated from the Himalayan mountain area of India.ORIGIN Traditional Indian medicine uses Juniper to relieve rheumatic pain and to help people breathe easier as well as helping heal cuts and wounds. PRINCIPLE CONSTITUENTS The Essential Oil of the Juniper Berries are made up of 55.4% α-Pinene and 16.75% Myrcene. There are also many other chemicals that only show up in trace amounts in the chemical makeup. HISTORY The ancient Greeks used to use the Juniper berry as medicine for certain ailments before using it for culinary purposes. The Egyptians are thought to have used Juniper as a burial gift as it was found in the tomb of King Tutankhamen.
