BOTANICAL PORTRAIT A herbaceous plant that grows wild around the world, Palmarosa has a long, thin stem with terminal flowering tops. The leaves of the Palmarosa Plant have a grassy smell to them. SOURCE Native to Southwestern Asia and the Middle East, Palmarosa now grows in Africa, Indonesia, Brazil and the Comoro Islands.ORIGIN Palmarosa was originally used as a fragrance mostly as there were very few known health benefits at the time. It then became known that Palmarosa could help promote intestinal function. PRINCIPLE CONSTITUENTS Palmarosa is a geraniol based oil with 83.8% of its chemical makeup bearing this structure. HISTORY The term “Indian Geranium Oil” was applied to Palmarosa when it was shipped from Bombay to the seaports of the Red Sea and transported partly by land to Constantinople and Bulgaria.
