BOTANICAL PORTRAIT  The Tea Tree is a shrub that reaches 20 feet tall when it is fully grown. It has needle like leaves and thrives in marshy areas or wet lands. The Tea Tree is a very robust tree; Tea Tree Plants need only 2 years to mature fully before it can be harvested for its oil. SOURCE  Today the Tea Tree Plant is cultivated on plantations in Australia almost exclusively. The largest Tea Tree plantations can be found in the territory of New South Wales. Other varieties of Tea Tree can be cultivated elsewhere though. ORIGIN  Originally, the Tea Tree plant was harvested by the aboriginal people of Australia to be made into the oil and used medicinally. PRINCIPAL CONSTITUENTS  The Tea Tree Essential Oil from Australia is composed of 41.8% Teroinen-4-Ol and 20.4% y-Terpinene among other chemicals. HISTORY  In World War II, Tea Tree was so valuable that those who grew it did not have to serve in the army until there was enough of the oil accumulated. It was even issued to troops as a medicine for tropical infections and infected wounds.
