Cedarwood Atlas (Morocco)

BOTANICAL PORTRAIT The Atlas Cedarwood is a shorter version of the true Cedarwood as it only grows to a height of about 30-35 meters tall. Atlas Cedarwood has a similar rough bark and green pines that cover the branches of the tree. SOURCEAtlas Cedarwood is native to the Atlas Mountains of Algeria and Morocco. It now grows extensively throughout Northern Africa and is cultivated extensively in the country of Morocco.ORIGINAtlas Cedarwood was mainly used to help the embalming process of kings and Pharaohs in Egypt and Greece and to treat some urinary and bronchial infections by some Asian cultures.PRINCIPLE CONSTITUENTSAtlas Cedarwood is composed of mainly sesquiterpene hydrocarbons such as α-himalchene, ß-himalchene, and y-himalchene which can make up almost 70% of the Essential oil. HISTORYIt is said that King Solomon's temple was built with Cedarwood to help preserve that artifacts it contains. Atlas Cedarwood can also be used for cosmetics and perfume by Egyptian citizens in ancient times.
