BOTANICAL PORTRAIT Patchouli is a perennial bushy herb which can grow up to 1 m tall with a very sturdy and hairy stem. Patchouli has very large fragrant leaves as well. It has white flowers that have a purple tinge to them. SOURCE The Patchouli Plant is a native of the tropical area of Asia like the Philippines or Indonesia. The Patchouli Essential Oil is usually distilled in Europe in countries like France.ORIGIN The Patchouli Essential Oil was used in the east probably to scent linen and clothes and is also believed to prevent the spread of disease. PRINCIPLE CONSTITUENTS The Patchouli Essential Oil consists mainly of Patchouli-Alcohol at about 40%. The Patchouli Essential Oil also contains Patchulenol, Bulnesol, and Pogostol. HISTORY Patchouli was used as an ink by the Indians which gives it a characteristic smell that is identifiable to some experts.
NERVOUS SYSTEM The Patchouli Essential Oil has calming and sedative properties which, when used in aromatherapy, make it a wonderfully mind-calming oil that helps the body when it is experiencing frigidity or stiffness, also helps the body deal with nervous exhaustion and conditions and symptoms that arise because of stress.
