BOTANICAL PORTRAIT Deriving from the very tall, Evergreen, Nutmeg Tree, which can grow almost 65 feet high, Nutmeg is borne inside the red fruit the tree holds in its foliage. The exterior of which is used to create the Nutmeg Oil. SOURCE The Nutmeg Tree is cultivated in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and primarily in Grenada though it is native to the Moluccas Islands, Indonesia.ORIGIN Nutmeg was used by Indians for intestinal disorders, by the Egyptians when preserving bodies and by the Italians during the time of the plague in the 15th and 16th centuries. PRINCIPLE CONSTITUENTS Nutmeg mainly contains Monoterpene Hydrocarbons in its chemical makeup; approximately 88% of the Nutmeg Oil is made up of this chemical. The rest of the Nutmeg Oil is trace chemicals. HISTORY Used for centuries as a domestic spice, the Nutmeg Essential Oil has been used in soap and candle making for many years.
