Angelica is a member of the Apiaceae family. It is harvested for its roots to distill the Angelica Root oil. SOURCEAngelica Root typically grows in cold climates such as France, Finland, Sweden, Norway or Greenland mostly in the northern parts of these countries. This makes the Angelica Root Essential Oil extremely rare and exotic.ORIGIN Angelica was cultivated as a vegetable and medicinal plant in Northern Europe during the Medieval Era. During the 12th Century, Angelica Root gained popularity and was known throughout all of Europe and parts of Asia. PRINCIPLE CONSTITUENTS The roots of Angelica contain terebangelene and other terpenes. The seeds contain methylethylacetic and hydroxomyristic acid. HISTORY Angelica has been used in East Asian Medicine since as early as 400 B.C.E. as one of the first drugs ever recorded in China and is still taken today as a tonic for certain ailments and illnesses.
