BOTANICAL PORTRAIT The Clove Leaf Essential Oil is made by distilling the oil from the leaves of the Syzgium Aromaticum Plant. Growing up to about 36 feet tall, the leaves start to change color and are then beaten from the trees then dried to get the oil. SOURCE The Clove Plant is believed to be native to Indonesia. Cloves are now cultivated in many Tropical areas such as India, Madagascar and the Philippines.ORIGIN The word Clove comes from the Latin "Clavus" meaning nail for its resemblance to ancient nail. PRINCIPLE CONSTITUENTS Clove Leaves contain 82-88% Eugenol with no Eugenyl Acetate as well as other minor constituents. HISTORY In the 16th and 17th centuries, Clove was worth more than its weight in gold and was one of the most highly sought after spices in the world. Until modern times, Cloves were almost exclusively grown on the Maluku Islands.
