Orange Blood (Sicily)

BOTANICAL PORTRAIT The Bitter Orange Tree is a middle-sized evergreen tree with a greenish-brown colored bark and spikes protruding from the branches. The fruit bears red streaks in the flesh of it which is why it is named the Blood Orange. SOURCE The Orange Tree that bears the Blood Orange is now cultivated in China and the Mediterranean region of Europe because of its ideal growing conditions.ORIGIN When the Blood Orange Oil was introduced, it was used as an antidepressant and an aphrodisiac in the 18th Century because its aroma was thought to inspire passion and uplift the spirits. PRINCIPLE  CONSTITUENTS The Blood Orange is almost all Limonene with 98% of its chemical makeup bearing this structure. The rest of the chemical makeup of the Blood Orange Oil is made up of trace chemicals. HISTORY The Blood Orange Oil has been used for centuries, most notably to prevent scurvy in sailors of the Exploration Era as they could otherwise have a dangerously low amount of Vitamin C in their diet.

IMMUNE SYSTEM The chemical constituents in the magnificent Blood Orange Essential Oil suggest that it can also be used as an effective antiseptic and an antiviral to help prevent infection in the body as it can clean the area that it is applied to of bacteria, viruses and other infectious material.
