Geranium Bourbon (Madagascar)

BOTANICAL PORTRAIT The uncommon form of the Geranium, Geranium Bourbon, is an evergreen shrub that reaches a peak height of about 4 feet. The flowers are pink in color and bloom in early to late summer. SOURCE The Geranium Bourbon Plant is native to many southern African countries such as South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Our oil is imported from South Africa exclusively.ORIGIN It is documented that the Geranium Bourbon Plant was used for a wide variety of medicinal uses including using it to staunch bleeding and to heal wounds and abscesses. PRINCIPLE CONSTITUENTS The Bourbon Geranium Essential Oil contains the following chemical constituents in its makeup: Citronellol (33.6%), Geraniol (26.8%), Linalool (10.5%), Citronellyl Formate (9.7%) and p-Menthone (6.0%). HISTORY In 1737, Carolus Linnaeus combined the entire species of Geraniaceae together. Although it was eventually separated again, the word 'Geranium' had become so well established that is is still used today.
