BOTANICAL PORTRAIT The Myrtle Essential Oil is derived from a small tree that has strong slender boughs. The tree bears brown reddish bark and small pointed leaves. The flowers turn into blackberries that are wonderfully fragrant. SOURCE The Myrtle Plant is native to North Africa and now grows freely all over the Mediterranean. The Myrtle Essential Oil is produced mainly in France, Spain, Tunisia, Morocco and Italy. ORIGIN In earlier times, the Myrtle Essential Oil was said to have a feeling of ‘drying and binding.’ This is the basis for which they used it for digestive purposes; Myrtle was used to help the body deal with things like diarrhea and dysentery as well as the spitting up of blood. PRINCIPLE CONSTITUENTS The Myrtle Essential Oil contains natural chemicals such as Cineol, Myrtenol, Pinene, Geraniol, Linalool, Camphene and many others that contribute to the wonderful properties of this oil. HISTORY The Ancient Egyptians used the Myrtle Plant as a remedy for sore throats because of its soothing effects on the throat. By 1867, there was evidence that the oil was being used medicinally all over the world.
